21st Century Farmer's Market Program

Twenty-eight NC farmers' markets participate in the 21st Century Farmers' Markets program, accepting U.S.D.A. Food and Nutrition Service, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, credit and debit cards in 24 counties.

The 21st Century Farmer's Market Program services agricultural retail (farmers' markets, tailgate markets, mobile mini-markets, delivery routes, farmer cooperatives, and Certified Roadside Farm Stands) with enrollment, training, operation, promotion, and administration.

The 21st Century Farmers' Markets program is administered by the Leaflight Inc., a nonprofit organization that promotes sustainable community development.

The program's partners include the North Carolina Division of Public Health (NCDPH) Physical Activity & Nutrition Branch, the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the Division of Social Services.

PAN supports this initiative by serving on the 21stCFM planning team, promoting the program and supporting social marketing and nutrition education approaches.
