Communities

Funding and supporting communities to enhance their ability to develop and implement policy, systems and environmental change strategies is a major initiative the PAN Branch supports. PAN Branch staff provides training and consultation to community partners who work to effect changes supporting physical activity, healthy eating with a focus on creating local and sustainable solutions.

Take Step Two operates in Pitt County and the Appalachian Health District.
The Eat Smart, Move More Community Grants Program supports local health departments in developing community-based interventions that promote physical activity and healthy eating.
Action Communities for Health, Innovation, and EnVironmental changE) enhances local communities' abilities to develop and implement policy, systems, and environmental change strategies that will help prevent or manage health-risk factors for chronic disease.
The Statewide Health Promotion Program provides funding to 83 local health departments to support work with community partners to promote policy and environmental changes that increase physical activity, healthy eating and tobacco cessation opportunities.
The Healthy Places, Active Spaces Grant Program provides funding to eight Wake County organizations to support policy and environmental changes that increase physical activity and healthy eating among underserved youth.
ESMM Coalitions initiate changes and coordinate programs that create opportunities for community members to increase physical activity and healthy eating.
