Healthy Eating

Increasing access to healthy food for all children, youth and adults in North Carolina is a primary objective of the PAN Branch. The Nutrition Unit in the PAN Branch collaborates with state, local and national partners to manage, develop and implement nutrition programs addressing chronic diseases. The Nutrition Unit helps coordinate the work of many partners throughout North Carolina to increase access to healthy, affordable and appealing foods in retail stores, worksites and underserved communities through corner store initiatives, community gardens and farmers market/farm stand promotion.

PAN Branch supports the NC Fruits & Vegetables Coalition
PAN Branch supports the Farmers Market Nutrition Program's Integration Pilot
PAN Branch helps lead efforts to increase the number of and enhance existing community gardens.
PAN Branch partners with other agencies on Farm to School and the USDA Fruit and Vegetable Program
PAN Branch partners with the 21st Century Farmers Market program
PAN Branch participates as an alternate on the NC Sustainable Local Foods Advisory Council; and works with partners to implement the From Farm to Fork State Action Guide implementation plan team.
