Physical Activity

Increasing access to physical activity for all children, youth and adults in North Carolina is a primary objective of the PAN Branch. The Physical Activity Unit works with many partner organizations to effect change in schools, after-school programs, faith communities and neighborhoods to help make active lifestyles the norm in our state. The PAN Branch provides training to local health departments and community coalitions on how to make changes to the "built environment" - the buildings, sidewalks, parks and open spaces that give people safe and healthy options for meeting the recommended amounts of physical activity each day.

PAN Branch coordinates the Healthy Environments Collaborative that works on land use and transportation policy as it relates to health, commerce, the environment and natural resources and transportation. For more information, contact Lori Rhew.
