Julie Francis serves as the State Health Plan Worksite Wellness Specialist for the Physical Activity and Nutrition (PAN) Branch, NC Division of Public Health. In this role, she develops training materials, conducts trainings, and provides technical assistance for the implementation of the NC HealthSmart Worksite Wellness Toolkit. The toolkit promotes healthy eating, physical activity, tobacco cessation, and stress management through individual, group, policy, and environmental changes in worksites across the state.
Prior to joining the Worksite Wellness Team, Julie held a clinical dietetic position in long term care; however the focus of her career has been in health promotion and disease prevention. Previously, she was the Nutritionist at Structure House, a residential weight loss and lifestyle change facility in Durham, NC, and has also worked with the Wake County Human Services Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children.
Julie graduated with her MS in Nutrition in August 2005 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). She completed her dietetic internship at Duke Diet & Fitness Center, Aramark, UNCG Student Health Center, and Duke Hospital. Prior to entering the field of nutrition, Julie completed a BS in Biology at the University of Pittsburgh. Julie most recently completed a Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management.
Outside of work, Julie remains active in her field, as the Secretary of the North Carolina Dietetic Association and a member of both the American Dietetic Association and the Raleigh District Dietetic Association. Julie enjoys spending time with her husband, Paul, and their families, as well as running, swimming, cycling, cooking, baking, and dining out.
