Karen Klein Stanley serves as one of the three Community Development Specialists for the Physical Activity and Nutrition (PAN) Branch, N.C. Division of Public Health. In this position she works with state, local, and community organizations to promote policy and environmental level change interventions in support of healthy eating, physical activity, and tobacco-use prevention. She provides technical assistance and training to local health departments in the north-central and northeastern regions of the state. The 30 local health departments/districts that she serves are funded by the Statewide Health Promotion Program and are charged with implementing policy and environmental level interventions in their communities. Karen also wears a second hat as the Liaison for the NC Winner's Circle in Schools program and assists with training and coordination of the program statewide.
Karen has worked in the area of Health Promotion since 1997, first at the local level as a Health Promotion Nutritionist in Pitt County and then as a state consultant in the N.C. Division of Public Health.
She holds a BS in Nutrition Science from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and completed her dietary internship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. In her spare time, Karen enjoys being a first-time mom and going for stroller rides with her daughter Hannah.
