Healthy Weight Communications Specialist
Physical Activity and Nutrition Branch
Division of Public Health
Marie serves as the Healthy Weight Communication Specialist for the Physical Activity and Nutrition (PAN) Branch, N.C. Division of Public Health. In this role, she conducts statewide media relations, health communications and marketing activities related to the prevention and reduction of obesity and related chronic diseases. Marie also provides technical assistance to locals and other states regarding physical activity and nutrition health communication, media relations and marketing.
Prior to joining the N.C. Division of Public Health, Marie completed a Health Communications Fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA. She has two years experience working with the American Cancer Society and has also coordinated a clinical research study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Marie has also instructed a nutrition course for nursing students in Concord, North Carolina.
Marie received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a Master of Public Health degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association and a Certified Master Fitness Specialist.
In her free time, Marie enjoys exercising, especially running. She has completed one marathon and looks forward to training for another one.
