Marjorie Wilson serves as Special Projects Coordinator for the Physical Activity and Nutrition (PAN) Branch in the NC Division of Public Health. In her role, she assists state worksite wellness committees in coordinating and providing onsite Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less classes for their employees, a collaborative effort of the NC Cooperative Extension Service and the NC Division of Public Health. She will also facilitate plans, projects, and activities for Preventative Medicine residents interested in a public health rotation within the PAN Branch, lead branch sustainability plans, and coordinate other projects to promote healthy eating and physical activity.
Marjorie is currently working on a Masters in Public Health Leadership at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and comes to the PAN Branch with a variety of community and state level public health experience. Prior to joining the PAN Branch, she served as the coordinator for WakeMed Health and Hospitals’ pediatric diabetes prevention program, “ENERGIZE!”, conducted both county and state-wide. She also served as the NC Action for Healthy Kids Project Coordinator with the primary responsibility of conducting parent advocacy workshops across the state that aim to educate parents on healthy living and how to make changes in their child’s school that impact health. Three years after college were spent as the Wellness Director for YMCA of the Triangle, leading staff teams and coordinating a variety of wellness programs for the community. She earned her Bachelors in Psychology from Elon University and immediately following graduation, lived and worked abroad in New Zealand for one year.
Marjorie is a Wake County native, so when away from work, she can be found enjoying Umstead Park and the greenways, teaching group fitness classes, and spending time with her family that live in the area.
