Meg van Staveren serves as the Worksite Wellness Manager for the Physical Activity and Nutrition (PAN) Branch, NC Division of Public Health. In this role she coordinates Unit efforts to implement an American Recover and Reinvestment Act funded worksite wellness project and the Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less Project, a collaborative effort of NC Cooperative Extension, NC State Health Plan and NC Division of Public Health. Meg also provides technical assistance and evaluation support for the John Rex Endowment Active Communities and Neighborhoods Grants Program recipients. This program provides funding to support strategies to increase physical activity in a variety of Wake County locations.
In previous roles for the PAN Branch Meg served as the State Health Plan Worksite Wellness Specialist and Manager for the NC HealthSmart Worksite Wellness Program and Staff Together Achieving Results (STAR) Pilot Program. She was actively involved program design and evaluation, conducted statewide training workshops and providing ongoing technical assistance and support to worksite wellness committees across the State.
Prior to joining the PAN Branch, Meg managed the Zone Health and National Winner's Circle programs and supervised nutrition interns for NC Prevention Partners. She was also actively involved in programmatic duties such as providing technical assistance and developing and maintaining training materials and website content. Additional duties included organizational support such as grant writing, fund development, and strategic planning.
Meg received her BS in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also earned a Masters in Public Health degree in 2004 from the UNC School of Public Health where her area of focus was nutrition.
When away from work, Meg enjoys spending time with her family— her husband, two children, two Manx cats and one Great Dane. She also enjoys reading, teaching group fitness classes, traveling, and running.
