N.C. Division of Public Health
Rocky Payne serves as a State Health Plan Worksite Wellness Specialist for the Physical Activity and Nutrition (PAN) Branch, NC Division of Public Health. In addition, he contributes part-time to promoting environmental and policy changes that lead to healthy behaviors. His duties include providing support for statewide trainings and implementation of the NC Health Worksite Wellness Toolkit.
Before joining the PAN Branch, Rocky obtained a masters degree from NCSU in international studies with a focus on global health. Prior to graduate school, he worked as an editor for various trade publications in North Carolina and New Jersey. Rocky also spent several months volunteer teaching in Bolivia, which he counts as one of his most formative work/travel experiences. He received a B.A. from Hamilton College in Comparative Literature and a minor in French.
Outside of the office, Rocky plays Ultimate Frisbee several times a week and tries to stay up to speed on playing the harmonica and reading fiction, current events, and sociology. He hopes one day to go scuba diving in French Polynesia.
