Steve Bevington serves as the Built Environment Coordinator for the Physical Activity and Nutrition (PAN) Branch, N.C. Division of Public Health. He is the project coordinator for the Division’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant on Physical Activity in the Built Environment. His primary responsibility is to manage this grant to address the health, economic and environmental burdens of physical inactivity. Steve supports the activities of the inter-departmental Healthy Environments Collaborative, leads State policy analysis efforts related to the health impacts of land-use, zoning and planning. He also oversees the project’s pilot community grant program, engaging 16 communities in policy change efforts.
Prior to Joining PAN, Steve worked with the East Coast Greenway, an effort to link communities along a 3,000 mile alternative transportation corridor from Maine to the Florida Keys. Steve also has extensive experience managing environmental projects with both environmental consulting firms and state government.
Steve is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and has a Masters in Environmental Management from Duke University. Steve lives in Durham with his wife and two children where they tend to a large garden and a few chickens. Steve enjoys being outdoors on his mountain bike, windsurfer or kiteboard.
