Surabhi Aggarwal serves as the State Health Plan Worksite Wellness Specialist for the Physical Activity and Nutrition (PAN) Branch, NC Division of Public Health. In this role she provides technical assistance for statewide trainings and implementation of the NC HealthSmart Worksite Wellness Toolkit. The toolkit promotes healthy eating, physical activity, tobacco cessation and stress management through individual, group, policy and environmental changes.
Prior to assuming this role Surabhi served as the Special Projects Specialist for the PAN Branch and provided technical writing assistance and programmatic guidance on a variety of projects and assignments. She was actively involved in researching, designing and writing for the NC HealthSmart Worksite Wellness Toolkit and provided support for the Healthy Weight Communications campaign and developed fact sheets, web site content, press releases and more. Surabhi has also worked on special projects with the NC 5 A Day Program, African American Churches Eating Smart and Moving More and Winner's Circle Healthy Dining Program.
Surabhi joined the PAN Branch as a public health intern in the fall of 2004 and completed the supervised dietetic internship at the Duke Health Raleigh Hospital in summer of 2004. Prior to getting married and coming to the United States in 2001, she was a diet counselor and slimming program manager at a weight loss clinic in her hometown in India.
Surabhi graduated in December 2004 from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Masters in Public Health (Nutrition). She also holds a masters and a bachelor's degree in Food Science and Nutrition from recognized universities in India. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association, the North Carolina Dietetic Association and likes to keep herself up-to-date with latest nutrition related news.
In her time away from work, Surabhi is with her family - husband Amit and two-year old daughter Mahek. She enjoys cooking, traveling, photography and shopping.
